Manly International Jazz Festival 2007 took place on Saturday 29 September to Monday 1 October. It was the 30th anniversary and once again for lovers of Jazz the festival kicked off on 5 open air stages around Manly. There were roving jazz bands and lots of indoor jazz music at the many fringe events.. A wide range of Blues and Jazz styles from traditional and great vocal jazz to big sounding Funk and Soul groups
The Manly Cove stage, near the ferry terminal has fantastic harbour views. The biggest stage is at the other end of the Corso opposite Manly Beach and has stunning beach and ocean views. There are other stages opposite the council building, half way down the Corso and on Short Street.
Manly Jazz Festival Markets operated along the beachfront each day.
There were indoor fringe events at the Manly Pacific Hotel, Manly Art Gallery and Museum, Manly 16 Foot Skiff Club, and the North Fort National Artillery Museum, inside the ferry terminal, Manly Boatshed Restaurant Nightclub and at Dee Why RSL
Highlights included the New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra, Daryl Aberhart Octet, Jubilation, John Harkins, The Ozcats, Delilah and our special guest Finis Tasby from New Orleans, USA. Also check out a great Big Band led by Dan Barnett performing courtesy of the Sydney Jazz Club.
A very special last minute inclusion was the great jazz trumpeter, Bobby Shew from New Mexico USA.
The Manly Cove Stage opposite the Bavarian Beer Cafe caters to modern and mainstream Jazz fans and opened with the hard driving Al Davey Quintet. See reedman Adrian Cunningham, trumpeter Tod Hardy and guitarist Steve Brien. There are two delightful jazz vocal sets from Catherine Hunter and Carrie Lakin and classy swing from Benny’s Boys, Straight Up and the Two Tenors band. The exciting Festival finale featured Psycho Zydeco and had them all dancing Harbour side.
